Director
James started out as a mechanical engineer, and moved into project management on a major London Underground project, where he found himself drawn to coordinating the many moving parts and interfaces of a large build. He brought that instinct home to New Zealand and to RCP, and it has defined his work ever since.
He has become one of RCP's senior client-side leaders on complex, design-led projects, the ones where a great deal has to come together at once, many stakeholders, live public interfaces and a clear client vision to hold it all to. His real skill is bringing those moving parts into one coherent direction, keeping a big, multi-party build aligned behind what the client is trying to achieve.
His projects span some of the country's most significant, from Eden Park and Commercial Bay to the rebuild of Scott Base in Antarctica and the integration of Auckland Airport's terminals. Through all of it he keeps the client's goal at the centre, as the thing the whole team is there to reach.
