Clients bring Cristean their least-defined problems, the complex, high-stakes challenges that don't yet have an obvious shape. His strength is in framing them, working out what the real question is and where a solution might sit, before anyone rushes to answer. It is the work at the heart of RCP's specialist advisory team, which he leads.

He came to that as an architect, a background that taught him to look at a problem from several angles at once. Over more than 25 years he has brought that perspective to complex property projects across office and workplace, urban development, civic and retail work, in New Zealand and abroad. He joined RCP in 2001, led the opening of its Wellington office, and has sat on RCP's executive for the past nine years.

Advisory is about listening deeply, understanding a client's needs, understanding their context, and ultimately about solving problems.

Beyond any single project, Cristean invests in people. Alongside commercial acumen and industry knowledge, he holds that it is relationships that truly deliver, and he gives real time to building RCP's ties with its communities and to mentoring and developing the newer members of the team, passing on what he has learned to the next generation of problem-solvers.
