RCP was project manager across every part of delivery, from base-build design coordination and procurement through resource consent, cultural engagement, construction management and programme oversight. In a spot this prominent and hemmed in, that meant close coordination across consultants, contractors and stakeholders, and careful handling of the building's neighbours.
Seismic resilience drove the design, with tuned fluid viscous dampers letting the building perform well beyond the Building Code and cutting the damage and downtime a major quake could cause. The façade answers Wellington's wind, its high-performance glazing formed into full-height vertical pleats and worked out through wind-tunnel testing, while the proportions, materiality and podium stonework were designed to sit in dialogue with St Paul's next door.
Completed in 2025 to a 6 Star Green Star Design rating, 55 Molesworth Street gives the precinct a resilient, future-focused workplace, with a café and generous lobby at street level and a mezzanine car park with near at-grade rear access. MFAT, MetService and Beca have moved in.
