Shaun Kao

Shaun spent the early part of his career as a field engineer, moving from Perth to Dubai to Calgary and eventually Taranaki. A former Habitat for Humanity volunteer, he felt the human side of the work was missing, and project management at RCP gave him the part he had been after.

At RCP he has built a range of experience across infrastructure, with a particular strength in urban development, working on multiple Kāinga Ora projects and the Auckland Council flood recovery, and earlier on the Westhaven Promenade and boardwalk. He is increasingly involved in RCP's digital team and the role of AI in the industry, an interest in where the work is heading as much as where it sits now.

For Shaun, project management is fundamentally about people, on the job and in mentoring those coming up behind him, which matters to him as much as the projects. He manages every project wanting the people he works with, above or below, to succeed.
