That front-end instinct carries right through delivery. He is trusted with the commercial and contractual heart of major programs, the procurement, risk allocation, claims and cost certainty that keep a large build honest, work he has done on some of Auckland's most significant infrastructure, from the airport to the waterfront.
Increasingly those projects are the ones shaping how the city moves and adapts, low-emission transport, flood resilience and the infrastructure that supports growth, and Matt takes the long view of where the industry needs to head.
