Glen Hughes

Glen's direction was set by the Christchurch and Kaikōura earthquakes. Working through the recovery, he saw how infrastructure done well could deliver real social and environmental good, and it pointed him towards work that benefits people, communities and the environment.

He began in engineering consultancy and, three decades on, still brings a planner's point of view to the work, an angle that sets him apart on the projects he leads. He moved into leadership early, driven by what he calls working with people, for people.

Much of his work has been about infrastructure as a force for change, finding solutions for communities, particularly those exposed to environmental risk. At Kāinga Ora he worked with iwi and a range of stakeholders to develop intergenerational housing.

He sees governance as another route to positive change. He puts that to work for community organisations and chairs Innovative Waste Kaikōura, overseeing solid waste, three waters and resource recovery across the district. Much of his focus is the South Island, and RCP's role as an independent project partner to the infrastructure owners who shape it.
