Ben worked as a builder before university, and that hands-on start still shapes how he works: less about what a project is, more about how it gets done. He got his grounding in Christchurch after the earthquakes, part of a team that won Project Management Team of the Year for its out-of-the-box thinking repairing the city's damaged heritage buildings.

Ben transitioned into leading RCP's portfolio and program management service, working across some of the country's largest and most complex capital investment portfolios, including a long engagement with Spark that grew from a single project into oversight of a major investment program. He understands how to align projects with clients' objectives and constraints, and much of his value is in giving them a clearer view across the whole. "Better information is what changes the game.”

Give a client a clear view across a whole program and the big decisions get a lot simpler.

Much of his work sits on the advisory side, and strong relationships with entrepreneurial clients mean he is often used as a sounding board for ideas. He is at his best with clients who want to try things. "I do my best work when I am deeply engaged with the client, and they are deeply engaged with us."

He is also a strong advocate for the systems and technology that can bring new efficiencies to the industry, always looking for a better way to connect the dots. "I'm always looking for the next advancement in the industry, and I like to try new things."
