Much of his work is in Wellington, in buildings that have to keep running while they are rebuilt around their occupants. Across health, civic and secure government work, and the seismic strengthening and adaptive reuse that define so much of the city's building stock, it is the same pattern: high stakes, live environments and little room for things to go wrong. "New builds stand out from the existing building stock, no longer restricted by the design limitations of old."
Underneath the contractual detail, Ben's read on the industry is a human one. New Zealand's market is small and runs on relationships, on being straight with people, and on teams rather than individuals. "Here at RCP, by nature, we are doers. We want to deliver, achieve, and make progress." He has spent much of his career building those teams and the trust that keeps clients coming back.
