Andrew King

When Andrew reached a crossroads in his geotechnical engineering career, he found himself drawn to seeing projects through their whole lifecycle. After eight years as an engineer on projects in Christchurch, Auckland and Tauranga, he made the move into project management at RCP in 2021, putting his technical background to work while taking on the complexity of entire projects. "Previously, I only saw a small piece of the puzzle. What interested me about project management was seeing something from the beginning through to turning on the lights, the whole project life cycle."

Relationship-building is at the heart of how Andrew works. "Being approachable and personable is really important in this industry, and my ability to connect with people that others may struggle with is a strength. Everyone has their own view of the world, a builder has his view, consultants and clients all have theirs. A lot of the time those views don't align, and it's about coming together and aligning."

Andrew leads RCP's Christchurch office, and treats the role as much about the team as the work. He puts real effort into the people around him, helping them learn and grow on the job, and into building RCP's presence across the region. Business development is where he wants to grow further, doing the work of earning trust well before any contract is on the table.
