Sebastian is happiest at the start of a project, when the brief is still a question, the concept is still forming and the feasibility is still being tested. That, he believes, is where a project is really won, and he puts his energy into getting the groundwork right, the right team, the right processes and the relationships built early, before the big commitments are locked in.

He came to that view the long way round. More than twenty years in construction, across an architecture degree, building surveying and client-side project management, including twelve years in London, before he moved to New Zealand in 2011 and joined RCP in 2013. That range lets him read design, construction and commercial detail alike and move easily between them, which suits the technically demanding, highly specialised buildings that make up much of his work.

Analytical by instinct and never far from a spreadsheet, he draws on his hands-on experience to review the detail, spot the risks and ask the right questions. He works collaboratively, is accessible and approachable, and gives real time to the younger people around him.
